COMMENTARIES

Don McLean -

The first mile plus is a generally flat dirt road that parallels the riverbed, and extends to the end of the canyon, where you will see the (usually closed) gate to the Veluzat movie ranch. At that point you take the dirt road on your left and soon begin a climb up and then down a moderate size hill. At the far side of that hill, the trail bears right. The next hill is twice as high, moderately difficult (ok to walk, no one is watching), and the trail continues to the top and a prominent gate and fence, posted with a sign advising you that the trail beyond is closed. You have now gone 2.5 miles and you thus turn and retrace your steps back to Copper Hill.
